Commercial and residential pool owners put a lot of hard work in maintaining a clean and crystal clear pool. However, a storm with heavy rain may cause a huge effect that will make the pool full of cloudy or even green water. 

After a heavy rain, your Chlorine level might zero out and your pH level might drop low. Expect a high level of water and that algae might also form. Excessive debris and dirt into the pool and the surrounding areas may also be evident. These all may result in a cloudy pool and organic staining. Here are some basic steps on how to clean your pool. 

If it's just a heavy rain without a storm:

• remove any debris, leaves or branches into the pool and the surrounding areas. 
• check your Chlorine and pH level then run the pump and filter the water.

If the pool is really cloudy and suffered from rainstorm:

• check your pool system to make sure they are not clogged.
• remove any debris, leaves or branches into the pool and the surrounding areas. 
• check your Chlorine and pH level then add chlorine to bring it up right away.
• pH tends to drop due to heavy rain, especially in a fiberglass or vinyl pool.
• run the pump and filter the water for 12-24 hrs.
• you may add Borax to increase pH level in the pool.
• pool water level might be high because of the rain. You may drain the pool down on waste mode. Probably about the normal level.
• if you are expecting some more heavy rains, drain your pool for at least 1 foot from the normal level.
• due to debris, leaves or branches that fell into the pool, Algae might bloom.
• you may notice some stains usually they are organic and will fade after shocking the pool and once the chlorine level was raised up.
• vacuum dirt and debris out of the pool.
• get the pool flowing and automatic cleaner working.
• empty the skimmer basket.
• empty the cleaner canister.
