Most Common Pool Equipment Repairs

There are several items of pool equipment that often break down and need immediate repair or replacement. Many of these issues are caused by leaking, water or air. Here are some of the most common pool equipment repairs that you may encounter with your pool.

Leaking Skimmer is the first on the checklist if a pool has a leak. Most commonly found in a vinyl liner pool, it is usually the easiest pool leak to find and fix. Skimmer leaks are easy to find because the water will always drop to the bottom of the skimmer and then the leak stops.

Leaking Pool Filter is caused by cracks found in your filter tanks. These are leaks through its pinholes in the stainless steel body which should be replaced.

Leaking Pump in most cases is a leak underneath a pool pump which is caused by a pressure-side leak. This is easily combated by inspecting the impeller housing o-ring, shaft seal and replacing any worn, cracked o-rings or seals.

Clogged Pump Impeller creates the flow from your pool to your filter and returns water back. When the impeller is clogged it reduces the flow. Your pump basket will not be full with water.

Filter Media Replacement indicator is when you are back washing your pool twice as often as before. It is also a sign to replace your cartridge if your pool is not appearing to be clear as it used to be. Another indicator is passing debris through to the pool.

Clogged Pool Cleaner is when something gets stuck inside the pool cleaner and keeps the cleaner still. These are things like twigs, large leaves or pool toys that may have been sucked up by the cleaner causing it to clog.

Heater Not Heating is often caused by condensation that builds up when heating water. However, it can also be a result of a damaged internal bypass or excessive water flow.

Melted Pump Fitting usually happens if the pump has run without water for a few hours. It gets so hot that it can deform the threads to where it begins to leak.

Air in Pump Basket indicates that either you didn’t have sufficient water flow into the pump due to a restriction at the skimmer or drain, or in the pipe. There is also a chance that you have an air leak in the plumbing between the pool and the pump impeller.

Clogged Salt Cell happens when salt chlorination creates calcium deposits which settles on the cell and clogs it.If you encounter any of these problems in your pool, we at Aqua Doc Pool Clinic are always here to help.
