Pool alkalinity is one of the many factors that affect the water quality of your swimming pool. Total alkalinity is closely related to pH, measuring the pool’s ability to neutralize acids. In the proper range of 80 ppm to 150 ppm, total alkalinity keeps the pH level stable.

One of the most important steps of swimming pool maintenance is water balance. Generally, understanding water balance can also be one of the most confusing processes of pool maintenance. Because of its complexity, some new pool owners may not know everything they have to do to keep their pool water safe, comfortable and corrosion free.

After testing, don’t forget to rinse your plastic tester in a sink (never in your pool), leave it dry, then pack up the kit and put it in a cool, dry place, up high away from children and pets. Some experts suggest using your pool test kit weekly during the swimming season.
