Why Children Should Have Proper Swimming Lesson?

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injuries and death for young children ages 1 to 4. An estimated 19 percent of drowning deaths involving children occur in public pools where lifeguards are present.

Most parents are truly concerned about when to begin signing up their children for swimming lessons to avoid the risk of drowning. American Academy of Pediatrics recommends beginning formal swimming lessons for all children at least at the age of 4 or older. However, an early introduction to water is an advantage. The children should never be forced to do something they’re not comfortable doing. During swimming lessons, parent-and-baby classes offer the opportunity for parents to hear water safety messages that may help protect their children.

Swimming lessons may help reduce the risk of drowning by as much as 88% according to a study by Dr. Ruth Brenner of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. As their brain develops, infants tend to be more comfortable in the water than older children. It encourages early physical development and social skills. Having early interactions with an instructor and play with other babies and toddlers, young swimmers are less shy, more independent and more comfortable in social situations. Since most infants are born with the love of water, swimming helps psychological benefits and have greater self-discipline as well as self-confidence at an early age.
