There are a lot of requirements and qualifications before anyone can obtain a swimming pool service licenses and certifications. There are four types of swimming pool contractor licenses.

Commercial pool and spa contractor. This type of license is limitless in the pool industry. Meaning, the licensed company can construct, install, and do the major and minor repair, as well as to service commercial and residential swimming pools and spas.

Residential pool and spa contractor. This type of license has a limit to residential pools. Meaning, the licensed company can construct, install, and do the major and minor repairs, as well as to service residential swimming pools and spas. They are allowed to do anything limited to residential pools only.

Swimming pool and spa servicing contractor. This type of license is limited to servicing of pools and not to build pools. The licensed company is allowed to repair and service equipment of commercial and residential pools and spas.

Residential pool and spa servicing specialty contractor. This type of license is limited to servicing of pools and not to build pools. The licensed company is allowed to repair and service equipment of residential pools and spas only.
